Chinese regulators approve AMD's $35 billion acquisition of Xilinx

2022-02-03

Chinese regulators have conditionally approved AMD's $35 billion acquisition of Xilinx, a specialty programmable logic device company.

The acquisition has already been approved in all other markets, so final approval should allow the deal to move quickly if both parties agree to conditions set by China’s market regulator.

These requirements include a commitment to ensure Xilinx FPGAs remain compatible with ARM-based processors and products used in the Chinese market.

The deal would help make AMD more competitive with Intel, which previously acquired a similar FPGA company with Altera in 2015 for $16.7 billion.
